Project International
Student Guide Amsterdam

- Assignment
For the International Student Guide Amsterdam project, I designed a mobile website specifically for an international student. My chosen student had specific wishes, and it was up to me to translate them into a clear, user-friendly and visually appealing design. The site had to complement the ISGA booklet and focus on the needs of new students who have just arrived in Amsterdam.
This project brought two disciplines together: visual design and web standards. I started with a concept, in which I immersed myself in the target audience and researched what the student needs to find their way in a new city. Based on those insights I developed my own visual style, which matched the basic style of the booklet while adding a unique twist.
Next, I turned my design into a working prototype in HTML and CSS, without frameworks. This process gave me insight into translating visual design into a real website, with semantic HTML and a focus on usability on mobile devices. Throughout the project I documented my design choices in Miro, where I worked from sketches and wireframes towards the final design. Processing feedback also played an important role in improving my work.
This project strengthened my skills in both visual design and web development, and gave me more confidence in turning ideas into functioning digital experiences.
